The American Hospitality Academy (AHA) is a full-service education and training company that delivers comprehensive programs designed specifically for the hospitality industry. AHA is unique in its ability to meet the needs of three distinct yet related client groups worldwide - students, professionals and corporations.
Founded in 1986, AHA has become the leading internship provider in the USA placing thousands of students from around the world in premier resorts and hotels. In 2005, AHA championed SERVLEAD (Service Leadership in a Multicultural Workplace,) the first Global Internship Certification and Training Manual in the world that combines both the leadership and cultural awareness skills necessary to compete in today's global economy. It was produced in partnership with the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) and educators from around the globe.
AHA's second publication "Service Basics: A Guide to Developing Positive Work Ethics in a Multicultural Environment" is also a hospitality industry first. Published in May 2006, The Service Basics Manual and Workbook stress the importance of strong work ethics in today's global industry.
In 2006, AHA established AHA-International Hotel Management Schools (AHA-IHMS) as a way to better serve the needs of the international community for world-class hospitality education. AHA-IHMS is a growing global network of private career colleges linked by a common vision and mission and academic goals. These campuses provide two-year Diploma programs in International Hospitality Management and International Culinary Arts.
In 2009, seeing the possibilities, freedom and flexibility that new web-based technologies could offer, AHA developed it's proprietary Online World Campus - a safe, secure, and easy to use online learning and management system. World Campus provides access to AHA's two year Diploma in International Hospitality Management as well as a series of Certificate programs that address essential management and service skills.
Participants can study in a global, multicultural classroom and participate in the World Campus professional networking community where they can engage in global discussions, share ideas, cultures, best practices and gain access to valuable training information.
In 2010, AHA introduced "a ha! University" an online customer service and corporate training division.Through World Campus, "a ha!" university provides extensive professional development and corporate training products and services, including customized programs, access to AHA Certificate Programs and online training.
Community involvement, caring about the future and making a difference in the world are all highly valued by AHA. The company's overall vision has always been "to create a better world through education, integrity and cultural understanding". Accordingly, in 2006 AHA created the World Peace Passport (WPP), a non-profit organization whose global education initiatives aim to connect students and teachers around the world in a common study of cultural understanding.
It is through these ongoing initiatives and willingness to move not only with, but ahead of the times, that AHA has maintained its commitment to providing universal access to quality education and training relevant to current and future needs. It is proud of its pioneering spirit in developing leading-edge programs relevant to the needs of individuals and industry in the 21st century.
Diploma in International Hospitality Management (DIHM)The aim of the DIHM is to offer students, who wish to work towards a supervisory level within the industry, a comprehensive hospitality management education. Students have access to American hospitality management methodologies, viewed by many as the best in the world. They are introduced to all aspects of hospitality services operations, including Rooms Division, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, as well as a wide array of career opportunities available to them.
AHA's online diploma program operates on a quarter system much like any other physical campus, and accepts students for admission 4 times a year. Please refer to the academic calendar for the exact starting dates. Students must submit applications and complete registration at least 30 days before their program start date.
Students applying less than 30 days from their start date may still be accepted, however, they risk not receiving their course textbooks in time for the beginning of their program. AHA does not discriminate in admissions based on race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, non-disqualifying handicap or age.
Hospitality English and Communication (HEC)In an increasingly globalized world, English has become a universal language for hospitality professionals and a necessity for career advancement. The Hospitality English and Communication Certificate (HEC) course was specially designed to assist individuals, who are or will be in the hospitality industry, with improving their ability to express themselves in English when dealing with guests and coworkers.
It covers a wide range of hospitality situations and the vocabulary, phrases, expressions and common courtesies that are appropriate to those situations. HEC is not an ESL program, but rather has been specifically designed for people who already have a basic to intermediate level of English fluency and who wish to enhance their ability and gain confidence in using English appropriately in hospitality settings.
The Hospitality English Certificate and Communication course aims to provide you with effective communication tools, and the confidence, to skillfully and diplomatically deal with everyday situations and problems that arise with guests, coworkers, and supervisors. The value you receive from the course depends on you and your willingness to practice what you learn, using the language of hospitality every day so it becomes second nature to you.
HEC consists of a series of online, self-study seminars. The seminars are presented as PowerPoints that are voiced-over allowing you to hear and repeat specific vocabulary and expressions. The voice-overs are by presenters with a wide range of accents - American, British, Australian - providing you with the opportunity to become attuned to English as spoken in various parts of the world, mirroring your experience in the workplace.
Each seminar sets specific exercises to improve your fluency and writing ability and refers to specific chapters of the Hospitality English textbook which you can download and use for further study. The textbook includes chapters on English grammar for personal review.

Managing Diversity in a Multicultural Workplace (MDC)The Managing Diversity in the Workplace Certificate (MDC) was developed for current and future professionals who want to move up the ladder, or are looking for that first management position.
The MDC is offered totally online, enabling 24/7 access from anywhere in the world. The 15-session course is facilitated by American Hospitality Academy's international faculty.
The MDC's objective is simple: to increase participants' abilities to understand, develop and practice the most important managerial skill there is - achieving specific objectives through working with people. That's a goal simply stated but not easily achieved. Your workers are not a homogenous group, and your approach to managing them must reflect that truth.
It would be natural to want a recipe for approaching the culturally diverse workplace – an answer key to get you through every situation and interaction.
Sorry. This doesn't exist.
People and contexts differ, and one size most definitely does not fit all. The AHA's approach combines an understanding of individual differences with the development of key management skills, so that a manager or prospective manager develops core skills and principles applicable to many different situations.
We recognize that managers require a foundation of organizational, technical and administrative skills. But this is not the focus of the MDC. We seek, rather, to develop the basic skills which lie at the heart of human interaction, allowing managers to motivate the diverse workers with whom they're presented.
