General Information
Champlain College offers both associate's and bachelor's degree programs in 25 career-building majors, including two Hospitality Industry Management tracks: for those interested in Hotel or Restaurant Management, students learn to "run it like you own it," whether it is as a department head in a large hotel or restaurant property, or as the owner or general manager. For those who lean more towards the Tourism & Event Management track, the program is designed to develop the skills to create, plan, promote and deliver memorable experiences for guests and clients, whether it is for business, recreation or special events. Students benefit from small classes and lots of interaction with industry-experienced faculty members. Besides the series of experiential learning activities that are woven into the academic program, the program introduces students to a variety of ways that managers can use computers and technology to improve their ability to make decisions, control costs, implement marketing initiatives, and ultimately provide superior service and value for their guests and clients. A unique Management Apprenticeship experience includes an on-site internship with a full-service resort property, tourism operation or special event planner, working closely with an individual manager/mentor. The experience includes a weekly online group discussion forum, where students at the various locations have an opportunity to compare their experiences and relate them to the ideas they have been exploring in their other classes.
