TEDxEcoleHôtelièreLausanne – a successful independently organised event
Wednesday 22 February 2012

The successful, independently organized event was attended by

The speakers demonstrated their ability to surprise and inspire the audience of around 100 hospitality professionals.

The exciting programme brought inspiration from a wide diversity of disciplines. All the content was curated with key stakeholders of the hospitality industry in mind. "We asked ourselves about trends influencing the future of hospitality and identified interesting ideas from neuroscientists and flavour scientists, from design agencies, storytellers, gamers, anthropologists and innovating engineers".

The half day event attracted alumni, industry friends, staff and faculty, a large number of students as well as two leading TED representatives. The event was re-transmitted live into a neighbouring room, such was the demand.

The hosts took us on voyage from discovering innovation in unexpected places (Mike Hatrick) to Styrofoam-replacement from an unexpected source (Eben Bayer); from how we perceive packaged food (Sophie Maxwell) to our perception and flavour of the food we eat (Birgit Schleifenbaum). We explored an ecological farming model (Dan Barber) and ecosystem services mathematics (Eva Zabey). We travelled to a highline wildscape proving valuable to Manhattan (Robert Hammond) and re-created space thinking like a novelist (Maeve Ryan). We heard about creating interactive and influential spaces (Kynan Eng), the world of gaming (Jane McGonigal), and an anthropological take on hospitality and hostility (Tom Selwyn). A live performance by Ilia Zolas and the EHL Music Committee wrapped up the programme.

TEDx are independently organised TED events. As such, TEDxEcoleHotelèreLausanne was licensed by TED, but organised and hosted by EHL.
